The Big Unit is headed to the Bay Area.
The Giants agreed to a 1-year, $8 million contract with Randy Johnson, bringing him home to the Bay Area in order to bolster their starting rotation. The starting rotation looks something like this:
Tim Lincecum
Matt Cain
Barry Zito
Jonathan Sanchez
Randy Johnson
with Noah Lowry looking out on the periphery. I think it's a good move - a short term deal and insurance in case Noah Lowry can't come back from his arm troubles.
According to SFGiants.com/San Francisco Chronicle, Randy Johnson is thinking of coming back to the Bay Area (he's from Livermore/Walnut Creek) and pitching for the Giants or A's. Not much to say about this right now except that I remember that clip of the Giants and D'Backs getting into a brawl and Randy Johnson putting on a Giants cap by mistake.
Kruk and Kuip used to joke about that and him becoming a Giant, and now it might be coming true. However, it isn't a stretch to say that he isn't the pitcher he used to be.
